Unwell Water Series
Kyle Bagenstose
My reporting appears in three papers, owned by GateHouse Media, with a combined Sunday circulation of approximately 85,000: The Bucks County Courier Times(Levittown, Pa.), The Intelligencer (Doylestown, Pa.) and The Burlington County Times (Willingboro, N.J.).
My work includes an ongoing investigative series on contamination of local drinking water supplies by unregulated chemicals. The series, “Unwell Water,” has received national recognition, winning second place for in-depth reporting from the Society of Environmental Journalists in 2017. The series also won the G. Richard Dew Award for Journalistic Service, the top journalism honor bestowed by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Unwell Water has triggered action by a slew of local, state, and federal officials, including Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and both of the state’s sitting U.S. Senators. Click the following links to hear me discuss the series on Philadelphia’s NPR affiliate, WHYY: 3/10/16, 5/20/16, 5/26/17,and 7/17/17.
